Wellgate Shopping Centre supports a number of charities through a mix of fundraising and events in the Centre. This year, we’ve been working with Maggie’s Centre in Dundee, based at Ninewells NHS Hospital amongst others.

 

Charity Autumn Fashion Show

Wellgate held an inaugural Fashion Show in aid of Maggie’s Centre Dundee showcasing new trends for Autumn/Winter in September 2007. Three Fashion Shows were held with local amateur models, former Miss Scotland Aisling Friel and Britain’s Next Top Model contestant Holly Ritchie.

Although each fashion show was free, shoppers were encouraged all those watching the shows to give generously to the Maggie’s Centre volunteers who were fundraising throughout the day.

A substantial amount of money raised on the day. We would like to thank all those who contributed.

 

Grass Roots

The Green Gym project was part of PRUPIM’s Grass Roots programme, a series of environmental improvement projects, which transform urban wasteland in areas close to shopping centres managed by PRUPIM, which in Dundee is the Wellgate Shopping Centre.

The aim of the Dundee Green Gym was for local residents and community groups to transform a derelict site into a thriving local community garden, to be enjoyed by all of Dundee’s residents. The work at the site offered local people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to develop skills in gardening, conservation and wildlife.

The project was funded by PRUPIM (PRUPIM is part of the asset management arm of the Prudential), who appointed BTCV, the UK’s leading practical conservation charity to manage the scheme. A number of local community organisations including, Dundee Greenspace, Dundee City Council, Dundee Volunteer Centre, local allotment groups and NHS Tayside were involved in the project.

The launch of the project took place on the 3rd of October 2007 and ran until the end of January 2008. If people are interested in the scheme they should contact the Wellgate Shopping Centre management team.
