Project Retail winners are announced ....
Top Scots entrepreneur Michelle Mone teamed up with leading property investment manager PRUPIM at Dundee's Wellgate Shopping Centre to unveil the winners of the inaugural Project Retail initiative. Three innovative candidates beat off stiff competition to win one of three £250,000 business support packages up for grabs in this Dragon’s Den-inspired pilot project.
The successful candidates are:
- Clare Satha, from Inverkeithing, founder of Zion, inspirational clothing brands for fashion-forward women, all at affordable prices
- Cat McGillivray, from Dundee, Ethereal Light, offers exclusive complementary therapies and workshops in private treatment rooms. This holistic centre also offers shoppers natural skincare products, ethical gifts and striking works of local art
- Jade Barnett and Lauris Tosh, from Inchture and Dundee, creators of the BECO Boutique, vintage and re-designed clothing, jewellery and accessories for on-trend women with an environmental conscience
Each of the winners have been presented with a fully 'ready to move into' shop fit package at the Wellgate Shopping Centre, plus associated marketing and mentoring support from a panel of leading business experts and academics over a three year period.
Whilst the initial prize offered a six month rental free period, PRUPIM has since enhanced the package to cover a 12-month rent free period with additional costs including the business rates, service charges and building insurance also covered by the landlords in their entirety for the first six months. This will enable the winners to invest in other costs such as stock to get their businesses up and running ahead of Christmas.
Designed specifically to revitalise Dundee’s retail sector and broaden the Centre’s appeal, Project Retail has exceeded all expectations in the current climate with over 25 credible entries received. Demonstrating the success of the initiative, a further three candidates are currently being considered for alternative units within the Centre.
