Bond returns in ‘Quantum of Solace’ – and this time he’s got a score to settle.
Back in 2006, Bond burst back onto our screens with a new look, new star and totally new direction. ‘Casino Royale’ gave the flagging franchise a much-needed boost, ditching ridiculous gadgets, cheesy one-liners and the ageing Pierce Brosnan. Replacing them was a rougher, tougher 007 in the form of Daniel Craig, who was closer to Ian Fleming’s original character.
Craig’s back in the tuxedo for his second outing as Bond, which takes place one hour after ‘Casino Royale’. This time, he’s up against Dominic Greene, a member of the Quantum organisation who’s posing as an environmentalist who intends to overthrow the government. Bond travels to South America to unravel Greene’s plan, keeping one step ahead of the CIA, terrorists and M, whilst trying to control his desire for revenge over Vesper Lynd’s death.
The film sticks with the gritty edge set by ‘Casino Royale’, but maintains all the elements of classic Bond. There’s still plenty of guns, glamour, and of course, girls. This time, Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko plays the love interest, while Brit girl Gemma Arterton offers support.
Move over Jason Bourne – Bond’s back with a bang.
‘Quantum of Solace’ opens on Friday, October 31st.
